Nintendo recently uploaded a new “universe” trailer for Metroid: Samus Returns but in amongst the footage for the new game, both Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion were shown. Does that mean that these games will finally get a new release on the 3DS?
The new trailer (shown below) covers a good chunk about the story for the initial Metroid games and in doing so shows off other games in the specific but does so in a very specific way.
In that, instead of showing the original Metroid for the first mission of Samus in the narrative, it instead uses Metroid: Zero Mission (shown above). Following that we get footage of both Metroid Fusion and Super Metroid.
The latter two are noteworthy, as both have had Virtual Console releases on the 3DS, with Metroid Fusion being part of the Ambassador Program. Not to mention that Metroid: Samus Returns is a 3DS game anyway.
The interesting thing here is that the Metroid Prime games are omitted, as is Metroid: Other M, so it makes me think that this trailer is hinting at something more portable and 3DS related. After all, why would Nintendo release this new Metroid: Samus Returns trailer going over the backstory of the series featuring these specific portable Metroid games when it was released back in September.
I have already written about the fact that having both Metroid: Zero Mission and Metroid Fusion on the 3DS would be an obviously great idea but I am well aware that porting Game Boy Advance games to the 3DS is not a trivial matter.
However, the fact that Nintendo is specifically featuring those Metroid games here in conjunction with a recent 3DS release makes me think that they might have a nice little surprise for us in the near future.
