Floyd Mayweather Jr. Will Be In A New Video Game, But It’s Not A Boxing Title

Many fans have been waiting to see Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a video game for years. Well, it’s happening, but not in the way boxing fans have wanted.

Instead of being the featured name in a new boxing title, Mayweather has signed a reported six-figure deal to appear as a character in Wild Poker, a mobile poker game. Take a look at the video below to see the game in action.

“As soon as I saw Wild Poker, I knew I wanted to become part of it,” said Mayweather, per a press release from the game’s publisher. “I’m constantly asked to put my name on stuff, but Wild Poker is different than any game I’ve ever seen. It’s poker, but it goes to the next level. There’s a whole new level of strategy with the power-ups. It’s a cutting-edge game, this is that next thing, and like everything I put my name on, Wild Poker is the best ever.”

The time commitment was almost certainly very minimal and if the six-figure contract reports are accurate, it was also quite lucrative. Also, the brand manager of Mayweather International, Brent A. Johnson is also the ONE Entertainment CEO.

Here’s what he had to say about the deal:

“Merging the mobile gaming experience with Brand Mayweather was an organic fit. ONE Entertainment looks forward to introducing Wild Poker to Floyd’s 50 million plus global fan base. This partnership is a sneak preview of the future of the brand’s diverse and entertainment-fueled portfolio post-fighting.”

It was likely a wise and simple decision for Mayweather to sign on with ONE Entertainment, Hero Digital Entertainment, and Playtrex.

Still, it stings like a Mayweather straight right hand to see him involved in any gaming project that isn’t centered around the sweet science. We haven’t seen a console boxing title since Fight Night Champion was released in 2011. Fans can only hope that another boxing game is potentially in the works for ONE Entertainment and the developers under its umbrella.
