Since the release of Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon across the world, the games have obviously been selling very well but in Japan, while the sales are similarly great, trying to find out how many copies have actually been sold is not entirely clear.
This is because Famitsu reported for the first three days of sales from November 17 to 19 that the games managed to sell 1,199,814 copies. This figure included the double pack of the games as well as the downloadable cards you can buy in the shops here but it omitted online sales.
However, things got confusing when you looked at Media Create’s official sales data for the same period, as the games only managed to sell 915,221 copies.
So between these the two sources, there is a sales discrepancy of 284,593 units, which isn’t exactly trivial.
Like the Famitsu report, Media Create doesn’t include online sales via Nintendo’s eShop and instead focuses on physical sales, though this would also likely include the downloadable cards you can buy in shops here.
Now, there is probably nothing untoward going on here and I may have misunderstood these figures in some way. That said, to have Famitsu and Media Create contradict one another on sales data is a bit weird. I have also contacted Nintendo about this situation but have yet to receive a reply.
Whatever is happening in terms of the sales for Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon, the game has managed to sell around 1 million copies in its first three days on sale and for Japan that is amazing.
I am also still playing the games, as they are utterly massive, and my review will be on the way soon.
Pokémon Ultra Sun and Pokémon Ultra Moon are now available worldwide on the 3DS.
